John Daly was one of the biggest draws in golf in the 1990s

Two-time major winner John Daly is considering playing regularly on the European Tour next year as he remains hungry to play tournament golf.

"There are a million opportunities to play in Europe and it's a great tour," said the 42-year-old American.

"Guys on that tour have shown themselves to be great players."

Daly has made five cuts in 16 events this year, earning just �40,291. His best finish was a tie for 40th at the Viking Classic.

Still remembered for his extraordinary win in the 1991 USPGA - when he replaced Nick Price at the last minute and had no time to play a practice round - he also won the Open at St Andrews four years later.

But he has plummeted to number 737 in the world rankings following drink and gambling problems and various marriage breakdowns - and has had to rely primarily on invitations to play on the US tour since 2007.

Daly blames some of his struggles on a mysterious rib injury that forced him to shorten his iconic swing and rendered one of the tour's biggest hitters less potent.

"I saw guys hitting it by me that never hit it by me before," he said. "I was like 'there's definitely something wrong here'."

He is certain to play at Turnberry in the 2009 Open.
