Nick Faldo had a tough first day as Europe captain but he and assistant Jose Maria Olazabal are all smiles as day two begins Paired with Ian Poulter, Justin Rose heads off in the first foursome against the USA's Chad Campbell and Stewart Cink After a disappointing first day, the European fans have plenty to cheer as Poulter and Rose find themselves three up after four holes The USA's Justin Leonard, partnered by Hunter Mahan, struggles early on and the two find themselves 2 down after five Oliver Wilson was the only player to miss out on the first day's action but he is in the second European foursome out with Henrik Stenson But it is a daunting opening for the Englishman as Phil Mickelson and Anthony Kim pick up where they left off to go 3 up after five holes Sergio Garcia was surprisingly left out of Saturday's foursomes, complaining of fatigue, but still watches his team-mates Padraig Harrington looks none too happy early on as he and Robert Karlsson quickly fall four behind to Jim Furyk and Kenny Perry American fans are in good voice again as their team hit back in the third and fourth matches after a strong start by Europe But Poulter remains a rock for Europe's opening pair as he and fellow Englishman Rose beat Cink and Campbell 3&2 Mickelson and Kim get into trouble at the 12th as Wilson and Stenson reduce a four-hole deficit and go into the lead Wilson and Stenson hold their nerve to snatch a stunning 2&1 victory over the previously unbeaten Mickelson and Kim Graeme McDowell and Miguel Angel Jimenez also fight back to take a half from their match against Leonard and Mahan Furyk and partner Perry prove too strong for Harrington and Karlsson for a 3&1 win which puts the hosts 7-5 ahead As the fourballs get under way, Boo Weekley and JB Holmes prove to be a potent combination for the US in the first match Weekley has become a cult figure with the galleries at Valhalla this week, with roars of "Boo!" rolling across the course Weekley and Holmes wrap up a 2&1 win over Lee Westwood and Soren Hansen, bringing Westwood's long unbeaten run to an end No pressure... a bird's eye view of the action as Casey lines up his tee shot at the 14th hole But it is a struggle for Casey, playing alongside Garcia, on the greens as his putter remains stone cold But Casey and Garcia fight tooth and nail for a half, with the Englishman holing a nervy one at the last McDowell and Poulter have clearly been doing their body language homework ahead of teaming up for the fourballs Faldo hugs Poulter - one of hs picks - after his compatriot holes a nasty one at the last for victory over Perry and Furyk Mickelson and Mahan seem to be in the ascendancy in their match against Swedish pair Stenson and Karlsson But the Swedes play to stereotype, showing an icy temperament and Karlsson sinking a putt at the last to halve the match
