American Angela Stanford held on to win the Bell Micro LPGA Classic by one shot from Chinese rookie Shanshan Feng.

The 30-year-old led by four shots going into the final round but after an inconsistent performance she held her nerve to hole a par putt on the 18th.

It was the second LPGA Tour title of Stanford's career and she said: "I'm more relieved than excited."

Feng birdied the 18th for a four-under- par 68 and American Kim Hall hit a 69 to finish third.

Stanford's final round at The Crossings course at Magnolia Grove in Alabama included four birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey.

She missed a three-footer for birdie on the 17th and a 12-foot chance on the last green but clinched the title with a par.

Karen Stupples was the best of the British hopefuls despite a closing 70, but she finished 15 shots behind the winner.

Becky Morgan (74), Mhairi McKay (73), Catriona Matthew (73), Johanna Head (69) and Janice Moodie (79) were also well off the pace.
