Woosnam eyes Slaley Hall victory

Former Ryder Cup captain Ian Woosnam hopes to add this week's PGA Seniors Championship to his two victories so far on the European Seniors Tour.

Some of golf's biggest names are at Slaley Hall in Northumberland for the four-day event starting on Thursday.

Woosnam told BBC Radio Newcastle: "I've won two PGAs so it would be nice to put the Seniors one with it as well."

Sam Torrance, Gordon Brand Jr and Costantino Rocca are also taking part, along with the 2007 winner Carl Mason.

Woosnam, who has never played the Slaley Hall course before, contrasted the demands of the Seniors Tour to the regular European Tour.

"It's intense but you don't get so upset if you don't play so well," said Woosnam, who only turned 50 in March. "You go out there, you see your mates, have a couple of beers and enjoy it.

"That's what it should be when you get to 50."
