Overnight leader Cabrera dropped six shots in two holes on Saturday

Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell shot 66 in the third round at Loch Lomond to move to the top of the Scottish Open leaderboard with England's Simon Khan.

Khan went round in 68 to match McDowell's overall score of 10 under.

Ross Fisher and Miguel Angel Jimenez are among four players on eight under, while Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter are a further shot back.

But overnight leader Angel Cabrera suffered a disastrous round, carding a 78 to fall eight shots off the pace.

McDowell is targeting his second European Tour title of the season, and with it a Ryder Cup debut.

He currently occupies the final automatic qualifying place for Nick Faldo's team to defend the Ryder Cup at Valhalla in September, but victory at Loch Lomond and the �500,000 first prize would guarantee him a place in the side.

"It's certainly in there in the back of my mind, maybe somewhere up near the front actually," admitted McDowell.

"Obviously if I was to win I realise what that would mean but it's not going to help me with the shots I'm going to play.

"If I don't make the team it's not going to kill me, I'm young and I'll have other chances. It's not the be all and end all."

McDowell won the Ballantine's Championship in Korea earlier this year and was third in the European Open on Sunday - behind winner Fisher, who lies in striking distance for the final round at Loch Lomond on Sunday.

On a congested leaderboard, 16 players are within four shots of the lead, including Adam Scott, Poulter and Westwood on seven under, three behind McDowell and Khan.

But one man who is no longer in contention is overnight leader Cabrera, after the Argentine's game fell apart.

Leading by one shot going into Saturday's round, Cabrera slumped to joint 37th after an error-strewn day.
