Long Ashton golfer Chris Wood is off to Royal Birkdale

Bristol amateur Chris Wood will play in the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale after coming through final qualifying.

He shot rounds of 71 and 72 at Hillside to finish on one under par and share second place with Jean Van de Velde.

The Long Ashton golfer was one of 12 players to come through final qualifying and claim a place in the Open which begins on 17 July.

Wood has just returned from Turin where he was representing England in the European Team Championships.
