Temperatures approached 100 degrees in Maryland

Jee Young Lee shot a seven-under-par 65 to take a one-stroke lead into the final round of the LPGA Championship.

The South Korean, who has never won a major, hit seven birdies and an eagle, leaving her 12 under after the third round in Maryland.

Sweden's Maria Hjorth, who started the day tied for 18th place, was one stroke behind after a 65 at Bulle Rock.

Overnight leader Lorena Ochoa and 10-time major winner Annika Sorenstam were joint third, two shots adrift.

Temperatures neared 100F and 54 people had to be treated on the course by medical staff, mostly for heat-related illness.

I've been waiting to win a tournament ever since I came to the Untied States

But an excited Lee enjoyed the conditions and is looking forward to Sunday's final round as she bids to win her first major.

"I like hot weather. It is more comfortable than the cold," said Lee, who came second in last year's British Women's Open.

"I've been waiting to win a tournament ever since I came to the Untied States. To win the major tournament here would be really exciting for me. I'm really looking forward to Sunday."

World number one Ochoa, who is looking to become only the fourth woman to win three straight majors, hit two bogeys and a double-bogey against four birdies in an even-par 72.

"It was a disappointing start and my round wasn't as good as the first two days," said Ochoa. "But I'm still in a good position and am looking forward to (Sunday)."
