Trish Johnson and Rebecca Hudson led England to a five-stroke victory in the inaugural European Ladies Golf Cup at La Sella Golf Resort near Alicante. The pair combined for rounds of 64, 70, 65 and 71 to end up on 18 under par, five shots ahead of Belgium and Germany who tied for second. Hudson had replaced Kirsty Taylor, who missed the event after brain surgery. The Welsh duo of Eleanor Pilgrim and Lydia Hall finished tied for 15th place with a three-over total. Hudson and Johnson were five strokes clear of the field going into the final round and although Belgium pair of Lara Tadiotto and Ellen Smets got into a position to challenge, three birdies on the back nine sealed victory. "We gelled perfectly," said Johnson. "The two Belgian girls were absolutely fantastic. They deserve better than what they got actually in the end but they played great and they pushed us all the way."
