Martin Kaymer looked on course for victory at the Abu Dhabi Championship after shooting a second-round 65 to open up a six-shot lead.
The 23-year-old German made four birdies on the front nine and three on the back to finish 13 under par.
Defending champion Paul Casey missed the cut with a level-par second round following his 75 on Thursday.
Swede Henrik Stenson, who trailed Kaymer by one overnight, remains second after a round of 70.
England's Ian Poulter recorded his second 70 of the week to move to four under, while world number eight Adam Scott and Lee Westwood slipped back to two under, a stroke clear of Nick Dougherty, Paul McGinley, Peter Lawrie and Rory McIlroy.

Open champion Padraig Harrington, Colin Montgomerie and Darren Clarke all carded second consecutive 72s, while Luke Donald joined the trio on level par following a round of 73.
Kaymer began with a birdie on his first hole, the 10th, and picked up another stroke at the third with a putt from over 20 feet.
The European Tour Rookie of the Year's only blemish came at the par-four sixth after a poor second shot but he then reeled off back-to-back birdies to reach the turn in 33.
He quickly adding another at the par-five 10th with a six-foot putt.
An eight-iron approach shot at the 12th and equally impressive eight iron into the 13th green led to two further birdies before Kaymer sank a perfectly judged 15-foot downhill putt at the 17th.
"I was talking to my parents on Thursday and they said try and keep it going, don't think about your scoring and just look at the golf," said Kaymer, who finished no lower than 32nd in his last six events of 2007 and came 41st on the Order of Merit.
"But Henrik is obviously a really, really good player and he can easily play seven or eight under on this course like I did."
Stenson had made a storming start but after dropping his only shot of the round at the 469-yard par-four fifth and reaching the turn in 34, Stenson was unable to add to his tally on the way home.
"It was tricky and I didn't play my best so I was quite happy to hang on to seven under par," he said.
"There is always the chance when one guy moves away from the field that they can come back but I doubt he will do but there is always a possibility and I will do my best to move forward over these next two days."
