Bradley Dredge has narrowly missed out on securing a place at next year's US Masters after ending the year outside the top 50 in the world rankings.

The Welshman has an end-of-year ranking of 53 - three places outside the cut-off point for the Masters field.

But the 34-year-old can still make it to Augusta by getting back into the top 50 the week before the tournament - or by winning a US Tour event.

Dredge made his Masters debut this year, where he finished tied 44th.

As a previous winner, Ian Woosnam is guaranteed a place in the field, but his participation will depend on his fitness.

606: DEBATE

The 49-year-old, who collected his OBE last week, missed this year's event because of his long struggle with post-viral fatigue syndrome Myalgic Encephalomyelitis.

Woosnam failed to pick up a penny in prize money this year because of his medical problems and has consequently slipped down to 858th in the world rankings.

But he hopes to return to action next year by joining the Seniors Tour, after he becomes eligible on his 50th birthday in March.

One of his first outings could be on home soil in the Ryder Cup Wales Seniors Open in June.

The event, the second most lucrative event on the European Seniors Tour after the Senior Open Championship, will return to Conwy next year after the north Wales links hosted the event for the first time this year.

"I am delighted that Conwy has invited us to return for 2008 following the tremendous success earlier this year," said John Jermine, chairman of Ryder Cup Wales 2010 Ltd.

"The course is a great challenge, was very popular with the players and attracted a large number of spectators; we believe next year will be even better."

The event will move down south after next year, with Royal Porthcawl playing host in 2009 and 2010.
