Darren Clarke stormed up the field to finish tied for third at the South African Airways Open on Sunday after firing a final-round 68. Clarke's one-under-par total at the Pearl Valley Estates left him three shots behind winner James Kingston.
South African Kingston pipped overnight leader Oliver Wilson by one shot.
Clarke's round, which contained five birdies, left him tied with South African players Garth Mulroy and Louis Oosthuizen and Welshman Kyron Sullivan.
The Northern Ireland man had three birdies in his opening five holes and his only dropped shot of the day came at the ninth.
After turning in 34, Clarke birdied the 11th and 13th which enabled him to sign for a 68.
Clarke had started Sunday's round seven shots behind leader Oliver Wilson.
The Dungannon man's performance is bound to give him renewed belief that his form is beginning to return.
He will also gain some crucial Ryder Cup points as he aims to secure a sixth successive participation in the match.
Peter Lawrie shot a final-round 74 on Sunday which left him tied for 21st.
