The Royal and Ancient has confirmed Royal St George's and Royal Lytham & St Anne's as the venues for the 2011 and 2012 Open Championships.

Ben Curtis won last time the Kent venue staged the Open, in 2003, and the last Lytham winner was David Duval in 2001.

"We would like to thank both clubs for their cooperation, enabling the Open to return to these fine venues," said R&A director of championships David Hill.

Champion Padraig Harrington will defend his title at Royal Birkdale in 2008.

Lytham will stage The Open for the 11th time a week before the Olympics start in London.

Sandwich has hosted the event 13 times.

It will be the first time the championships have been staged in England two years in a row.
