Pettersen celebrates her success in the morning foursomes
Day two: Europe 5-6 USA

Europe fought back strongly late on after gale-force winds delayed play for two hours on the second day of the Solheim Cup in Halmstad, Sweden.

Europe staged a comeback to share the morning foursomes.

Suzann Pettersen and Sophie Gustafson, and Maria Hjorth and Gwladys Nocera both won their final holes to finish their matches all square.

Hjorth and Nocera were two down with three to go but Hjorth made a five-footer for a half after hitting into the greenside bunker.

Dane Iben Tinning and German Bettina Hauert had lost four and two to Pat Hurst and Angela Stanford.

Annika Sorenstam and Catriona Matthew withstood a fightback to beat Cristie Kerr and Nicole Castrale by one hole.

The fourballs will finish early on Sunday, to be followed by the 12 singles with the US needing 14 points to retain the Cup while Europe need 14 to regain it.

Of the matches on the course, rookie Linda Wessberg, making her Solheim debut, and the undefeated Maria Hjorth are one up on Paula Creamer and Brittany Lincicome after 11 holes.

Trish Johnson and Iben Tinning were all square after 10 holes against Juli Inkster and Stacy Prammanasudh.

Europe held a one-up lead in both of the bottom two matches - Laura Davies and Becky Brewerton against Natalie Gulbis and Nicole Castrale after 10 holes, and Annika Sorenstam and Suzann Pettersen through nine holes versus Cristie Kerr and Morgan Pressel.
