Mickelson has been hampered by a wrist injury this season

Mickelson pronounced himself pain-free for the first time since hurting his left wrist practising for June's US Open at Oakmont.

"I wish this was just a couple of weeks later because I finally was able to start practising," he said.

"Hopefully I should be ready for the final four events of the year."

World number three Mickelson, 37, finished at six-over-par for the tournament after picking up his first birdie at the 17th hole after a string of 16 pars.

"I had a nice Faldo round going where he won the British at Muirfield with no birdies, no bogeys," Mickelson said in reference to the steady style of British six-times major winner Nick Faldo.

"I played very well, had a chance to get the round going. I think I missed only one green the first 13 holes and had a lot of birdie chances. Didn't make any, made one on 17."

The US PGA Tour season finishes with the FedExCup play-offs, a series of four big-money events culminating in the Tour Championship.

"Usually this time of the year after the PGA, I'm ready to pack it in," Mickelson said.

"But because I feel like I haven't been able to play and practice three months, my excitement level to get back out and compete is still very high right now."
