Donald has failed to finish in the top 30 in his eight Opens |
England's Luke Donald blamed his short game for his dismal display at this year's Open which saw him finish 13 over par at Carnoustie. Donald was Britain's highest-ranked player coming into the event but fell away after an opening-round 70.
He had rounds of 76 and 73 before carding seven bogeys in dismal weather conditions for a closing 78.
"My chipping was miserable, to say the least, I felt my short game was not very good at all," he said.
"I didn't really hit the ball badly, but I just didn't score."
England's Mark Foster had posted the first sub-par round of the day despite having the worst of the conditions, carding a 69 to finish four over par.
Sandy Lyle, winner of the Open in 1985 and the Masters in 1988, hit three double bogeys, three bogeys and two pars for a final-round 79. The score puts him on 14 over par.
Fellow Scot Alastair Forsyth had a double bogey at the 6th and seven bogeys to finish on 15 over for the tournament.
