Olazabal missed the recent French and Scottish Opens |
Spain's Jose Maria Olazabal has withdrawn from this week's Open at Carnoustie because of a knee injury. The 41-year-old, who has not played since finishing tied for 45th at the US Open four weeks ago, has been replaced by American Tom Pernice.
Olazabal was forced out of the French Open and last week's Scottish Open and flew back to Spain for intensive treatment over the weekend.
But the two-time Masters champion will not be fit to start on Thursday.

Pernice was originally second reserve for the tournament but decided to fly across the Atlantic after fellow American Lucas Glover replaced injured Japanese player Shingo Katayama.
Pernice's call-up now puts Indian Jyoti Randhawa on stand-by for this week's event.
