Ramsay positive after missed cut
Richie Ramsay looks concerned at Oakmont
Richie Ramsay was playing with Tiger Woods and Geoff Ogilvy
Richie Ramsay declared himself pleased with his US Open debut despite missing the cut at Oakmont by a stroke on his 24th birthday.

Fellow Scots Colin Montgomerie and Martin Laird slumped to 18 over and 15 over respectively.

But US Amateur champion Ramsay carded a creditable 74 for a 12-over total.

"Playing with Tiger Woods and current champion Geoff Ogilvy, it doesn't get much bigger than that, and I thought I handled myself well," said Ramsay.

"The target was to make the cut and it would have been a nice birthday present.

"But some things are not meant to be and I've got to take the positives out of my experience.

"It is just a shame about the final score."

Ramsay's 74 compared favourably with many professionals on a day when the Oakmont course took its toll.

But the damage had been done with his opening 78.

Montgomerie's quest for a first major title goes on after the man who for several years dominated the European tour carded a dismal second round of 82.

US-based Laird, making his major debut after coming through qualifying, was three shots better off on the day but 15 behind leader Angel Cabrera.
