Howell has endured months of frustration |
Ryder Cup star David Howell has pulled out of the US Open with a wrist injury. The Briton had expected to make his comeback at the year's second major at Oakmont this week after being sidelined with a long-standing back problem.
However, he hurt his wrist while practising and will be replaced at the US Open by American Luke List.
Howell, 31, tied for 16th place in last year's US Open but had a disastrous finish at the Masters in April after being well placed at the halfway stage.
The English golfer has had a frustrating time since then with the back injury, which meant he was unable to defend his PGA Championship title at Wentworth last month.
