Dredge looks for his ball in the 18th hole hazard during the play-off |
Bradley Dredge said he was proud of his final round at the Irish Open despite eventually losing to Padraig Harrington in a sudden-death play-off on Sunday. Dredge made up three shots on overnight leader Harrington with a round of 68 to finish in a tie on five under par.
But the Welshman then found the hazard on the first play-off hole, and Harrington took full advantage to win.
"It was a bit annoying to finish the way I did but overall I played well on a testing golf course," said Dredge.
"I knew my short game had to be good. Luckily I holed some good putts and chipped in on the 14th.
"I thought I played quite a good recovery shot in the play-off but the ball trickled into the hazard and I didn't have much of a shot."
Dredge made a poor start to his final round at Adare Manor by dropping two shots in the first three holes.
But four birdies in five holes before the turn brought right back into contention.
He eventually drew level with Harrington when he birdied the 17th - his eighth biridie of the round - after an superb approach from the rough and the Irishman dropped a shot.
"I got a bit lucky with the lie there because I was able to get the club under the ball," said Dredge
"You get lucky now and then, but then I was unlucky in the play-off I suppose. That's golf I guess.
"Unfortunately it was in a lie I've never practiced from before, so that was the end of that."
