Ernie Els showed he was over the disappointment of missing the cut at the Masters by taking a three-shot lead at the Verizon Heritage tournament.
Els is three clear of Jerry Kelly after a second straight round of six-under 65 at the South Carolina course, including six birdies, took him to 12 under.
Fred Funk shot 67 for the second day in a row to share third place on eight under with Stephen Leaney.
Masters champion Zach Johnson is in a nine-way tie for 13th on four under.

"I felt there were a couple of birdies to be made there, and that's what I did," said Els after picking up shots at the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 9th.
"I hit some quality shots and made some good putts. It was an enjoyable round, the opposite of last week."
