Olazabal, the winner in 1994 and 1999, was 11 over for the weekend |
Two-time champion Jose Maria Olazabal said he was relieved to have "survived" the hardest playing conditions he has ever experienced at Augusta National. The 41-year-old Spaniard, the last European to win the Masters when he triumphed in 1999, carded a 77 on Sunday for a 16-over total.
The Ryder Cup star said: "It was all about survival out there.
"It's been terrible in that regard this week - pars were good. This has been the toughest Masters I have played."
Olazabal, who also won in 1994, was playing in his 20th Masters but none of those saw scoring as high as this one.
The 54-hole lead of two over par was two shots higher than the previous highest lead at that stage of the tournament.
And champion Zach Johnson's score of one-over 289 was the joint highest winning total in Masters history.
