Jacklin last played in the Open at St Andrews in 2005 |
Former Open winner Tony Jacklin is coming out of retirement to play in this year's Championship at Carnoustie. The 62-year-old last played in the tournament when it was held at St Andrews in 2005, where he missed the halfway cut with rounds of 79 and 76.
It is the third time Jacklin has come out of retirement to play in the Open, first quitting in 1999 after missing the cut at Carnoustie that year.
Jacklin won the Open in 1969 at Royal Lytham aged just 25.
He followed that success up with a seven-shot win in the following year's US Open at Hazeltine, and also captained Europe's Ryder Cup side successfully in 1985 and 1987.
Tiger Woods will launch his defence of the Claret Jug at the Carnoustie course on 19 July.
