Wedding keeps Watson out of Open
Tom Watson
Watson won the Open on his debut in 1975 at Carnoustie
Five-time Open winner Tom Watson will miss this year's championship at Carnoustie, only the third time he has not taken part since his debut in 1975.

The 57-year-old, who missed the 1996 and 2004 tournaments because of injury, is unable to take part because his daughter Meg is getting married.

"I will be thinking a little bit about it but I won't tell her that, though," he told the PGA Tour website.

America's Watson won the first of his five Open titles at Carnoustie in 1975.

His other triumphs came at Turnberry in 1977, Muirfield in 1980, Troon in 1982 and Birkdale the following year.

Watson has made the halfway cut in the last three Opens he has played.
