Ken Brown on golf's toughest test
Ken Brown
Ken Brown
BBC golf commentator

Carnoustie provides the hardest closing stretch on the Open rota. It consists of four classic holes that provide an extremely stern challenge for even the best in the world.

But it is also a very fair test. If you make the right shots it is very playable, but it is pretty merciless on those that do not.

There is not much margin for error on any of them and if you play them in level par you have done extremely well.

There are few birdie chances and for anything drifting offline or anyone taking any gambles there is a six or seven waiting.

It is very exposed, some weeks there is no breeze and then other days it blows winds of 35mph - making it an even more difficult finish.

Here's my guide on how to tackle the hardest part of a course often referred to as "Car-nasty".
