Norman's last victory came at the Open Championship in 1993 |
Former world number one Greg Norman is to make a rare tournament appearance at next month's Dubai Desert Classic. The 51-year-old Australian will join the likes of Tiger Woods, Ernie Els and Colin Montgomerie in the field at the Emirates Golf Club from 1-4 February.
"The presence of a colourful personality like Norman will spice up the flavour of our event," said Dubai official Mohamed Juma Buamaim.
"With players like Greg and Tiger we couldn't ask for a better field."
Norman has more than 80 tournament wins to his name, including two Open Championships, and he held the number one ranking for 331 weeks.
His last win came at the Greg Norman Holden International in 1998 but in recent years, he has concentrated on his business empire, ranging from golf clothing and equipment to real estate, wine and grass specially suited for golf courses.
He is also involved with work on the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai.
"I am excited to be part of the incredible story that is Dubai. No place in the world has this kind of vision, leadership and entrepreneurial spirit," said Norman.
Woods won last year's Dubai Desert Classic in a play-off with Els.
