Justin Rose won his first European Tour event for four years with a two-shot victory at the Australian Masters.

The Englishman hit a one-over 73 in his final round to finish on 12 under at Huntingdale, ahead of Australians Richard Green and Greg Chalmers.

Rose had been three clear of the field at one stage but had a triple-bogey eight at the seventh.

But the 26-year-old, whose last win came at the 2002 British Masters, held off the field to land victory.

"I can't believe it's been four years," said the world number 69.

"It's been a big week confidence-wise for me. I've had a few close calls this season but to win a tournament like this is great for my confidence."

Rose's five birdies were cancelled out by dropped shots at the fifth, 12th and 15th and by his disaster at the par-five seventh.

His tee shot found the sand and his second landed in an unplayable lie in the bushes.

He chipped out before finding the back of the green and then three-putting but fought straight back with a birdie at the next hole.

Amateur Aaron Pike and Chalmers both joined him in the lead during the final round but both fell away again.

Chalmers had a nightmare at the par-four ninth, five-putting - with four coming from less than six feet - for a triple bogey.

Meanwhile, Pike came up with the shot of the day, holing a bunker shot for an eagle at the 14th to take a share of the lead.

But he also suffered the embarrassment of sending a 50-foot birdie putt on the 18th into a greenside bunker.

Gusting winds made good scoring difficult and few players broke 70.

Ryder Cup star Paul Casey, whose third-round 67 had fired him up the leaderboard, endured a disappointing final day.
