Bjorn (left) wanted to be selected alongside Clarke |
Darren Clarke and Thomas Bjorn will be playing partners in the Madrid Masters barely a week after the row over Europe's Ryder Cup wildcards. Clarke, making his comeback following wife Heather's death, was named as one of captain Ian Woosnam's picks.
Bjorn thought he should have been handed the second wildcard spot but lost out to Lee Westwood.
The Dane, a good friend of Clarke, had no qualms over his selection, but attacked Woosnam's captaincy skills.
He later apologised, but that did not save him from being fined a reported 10,000 by the European Tour for a serious breach of their code of conduct.
Clarke entered this week's Madrid event - his first since The Open in July - as a warm-up for next week's match against the Americans in Ireland.
The Ryder Cup gets under way at the K Club near Dublin on Friday, 22 September.
