It was the 67th title of Davies' career |
Laura Davies ended the longest title drought of her professional career by clinching the SAS Masters in Oslo. The 42-year-old had not won for 29 months but a final round of 68 saw her finish six shots clear of Belgian Ellen Smets for her 67th career title.
Davies, who had begun the day two shots ahead of the field, had two eagles and four birdies before bogeying the final two holes to finish on 11 under.
"This just feels absolutely fantastic," said the former world number one.
Australian Nikki Garrett and Virginie Lagoutte tied for third on four under.
Davies admitted she felt huge relief at finally landing another title, especially after missing seven cuts out of eight at the beginning of this year.
"Two-and-a-half years without a win seems a very long time," she said after claiming a record 35th title on the Ladies European Tour.
"I must admit that after I made such a disappointing start to the year, it did cross my mind that I might never win anything again.
"But then I got my form back in Europe and the whole season has turned round completely. Now I'm just so looking forward to the rest of the year."
