Ian Woosnam will captain the Europe team at the K Club |
Spectators at next month's Ryder Cup at the K Club will be banned from carrying mobile phones and cameras. Some 40,000 golf fans are expected to attend each day of the 36th Ryder Cup tournament between Europe and the United States from September 22 to 24.
"This decision was taken to ensure that the matches take place without the risk of disturbance to the players," a spokesman for the European Tour said.
Fans will also face security checks and need passports for identification.
"Mobile phones are banned for all six days of the tournament (three practice days and three tournament days)," the European Tour spokesman added.
Cameras will be permitted on practice days, September 19 to 21, but not on match days.
Roads within a five-mile radius of the course will be closed off for the entire week, with spectators having to use special park-and-ride facilities.
Meanwhile, a pay dispute involving the club's greenkeepers has been resolved.
The greenkeepers at the County Kildare venue had threatened to go on strike during the Ryder Cup.
The trade union representing more than half the K Club's 24 greenkeepers, gardeners and mechanics said management had accepted a Labour Court recommendation for a 50 per cent phased pay rise to begin before the start of the Ryder Cup next month.
"This issue has dragged on for seven months," said Colm Quinlan, regional officer of the Amicus trade union.
"We are extremely satisfied with the historically high recommendatrion received from the Labour Court and with the fact that this recommendation has been positively received and accepted by K Club management."
