WESTWOOD PROFILE
Lee Westwood
Age: 33
Country: England

Record: W11, H1, L8
Position qualified: Wildcard
World ranking: 51
Worksop's finest has played every match in his four Ryder Cups and could well maintain this record in Ireland despite needing a wildcard from Ian Woosnam.

The 33-year-old spent much of the early season struggling in America and was well down on the European rankings list but solid recent form alerted Woosnam.

Westwood is one of only six Europeans to have gone unbeaten in a Ryder Cup, dropping just a half point in 2004.

He is a perfect team man and gels well with Sergio Garcia and Darren Clarke.

In 2000, Westwood ended Colin Montgomerie's run of seven European titles after winning six times in a season to equal the record set by Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo and Montgomerie.

He then suffered a slump, plummeting to as low as 215th in the world, and was thought to be the weak link prior to the 2002 Ryder Cup.

But he won three points out of five at The Belfry and announced his reappearance on the world stage with two quick victories in the 2003 BMW International in Germany and the Dunhill Links Championship.

Did you know? Lee Westwood is an avid Nottingham Forest fan and is married to former Ryder Cup player Andrew Coltart's sister Laurae.
