Woods shot two poor rounds of 76 at Winged Foot |
Tiger Woods has admitted he was not ready to compete in last month's US Open where he missed the cut in a major for the first time as a professional. He had returned to competitive golf at Winged Food after a nine-week lay-off following the death of his father.
"I was rusty," said Woods ahead of the PGA Western Open at Cog Hill, Illinois.
"It was very disappointing. I had good practice sessions and I thought I was prepared. I watched both days I missed on TV - that was my punishment."
Woods' streak of making the cut in majors ended at 39, leaving him tied for that record with Jack Nicklaus.
Woods said he fished off his yacht after his Winged Foot exit before going back to work on his game.
"This year has been a difficult and different year - that's just the way it is," he reflected.
Looking ahead to this month's Open Championship at Hoylake, Woods said he knew nothing about the course layout and would not see it until the week before.
"I haven't been there, haven't seen any photos of it. All I know is that it's in Liverpool," added the 2005 champion who clinched a five-shot win at St Andrews.
