 Teenager Rory McIlroy has retained two titles this year |
Rory McIlroy has retained the Irish Amateur Close Championship title after victory in Wednesday afternoon's final at the European Club. The Holywood teenager defeated Co Louth player Simon Ward 3&2 in the decider on the Co Wicklow course.
McIlroy beat Conor Doran of Banbridge 2&1 in Wednesday morning's semi-finals with Ward also a 2&1 winner against Moyola Park's Paul O'Kane.
The talented McIlroy retained the West of Ireland title in April.
The 17-year-old beat Darren Crowe of Dumurry by one hole in Tuesday's quarter-finals.
Doran enjoyed a 2&1 victory over Jonathan Caldwell of Clandeboye while O'Kane beat Fergal Rafferty of Dungannon at the 19th hole.
Ward defeated David Finn of Mallow 6 and 5.
