Tiger's father died of cancer on 3 May |
Tiger Woods will skip this week's Memorial Tournament as he continues to grieve for his father, Earl, who died on 3 May after a battle with cancer. Woods, the world number one, has never missed the Memorial since his first season on the PGA Tour in 1997.
The 30-year-old American won it from 1999-2001 and finished no worse than fourth over the last three years.
The Memorial will still feature seven of the world's top 10 players, missing only Woods, David Toms and Luke Donald.
"There's always disappointment when a top player doesn't come. Hopefully, he'll come back next year," said tournament director Dan Sullivan.
Woods still expects to compete at the US Open at Winged Foot on 15-18 June.
