Wentworth's famous West Course is a much tougher challenge this year |
Days of heavy rain at Wentworth led officials to reduce the length of two holes before the start of the European Tour's flagship event. Seventeen of 18 holes on the West Course had been lengthened and made harder for this year's event by Wentworth resident Ernie Els.
But with the fairways soaked, a decision was made to cut the 3rd by 77 yards and use a forward tee at the 6th.
Winter rules will also apply on the fairways for the first two rounds.
A total of 30 bunkers have been added since last year and every hole except the short 14th has been altered, but the shortening of the 3rd and 6th meant the course was playing only about 150 yards longer.
