England's former world number one Laura Davies withdrew from the Florida's Natural Charity Championship after carding a dismal opening round of 82. The 41-year-old blamed a leg injury for her poor form and she has yet to make a cut on the LPGA tour this season. Swede Maria Hjorth and American Cristie Kerr shot seven-under-par opening rounds of 65 to share the lead. The duo were one stroke ahead of Candy Hannemann, Patricia Meunier-Lebouc and defending champion Annika Sorenstam. Scot Catriona Matthew led the British charge in Georgia, sinking six birdies to lie three shots off the pace. Wales' Becky Morgan, who tied for second two years ago, was also in good form as she carded a 69.
