Mexico's Lorena Ochoa fired a one-under-par 71 to retain a four-shot lead at the halfway stage of the Kraft Nabisco Championship. Ochoa followed up her record first round of 62 with another solid display to lead teenager Michelle Wie.
Wie was unable to get closer to the Mexican after matching her with a round of 71.
Australian Karrie Webb is third but defending champion Annika Sorenstam struggled to a 72.
Sorenstam is on the same mark as England's Karen Stupples, 10 shots behind Ochoa. The Mexican moved a step closer to her first major title and was happy with her second round.
"It's amazing how easy things were yesterday, and today I worked really hard for my one under," Ochoa said.
"I was pleased with my round. I really like my position."
Stupples was keen to look on the bright side of her round.
"The wind was very tough, but I hit a lot of solid shots and made a great par save at 17 which kept me in there," said the Kent player.
"I'm 10 shots off the lead, but there are not too many players ahead of me so
I'm really looking forward to the weekend."
But it was a poor day for two highly-rated Britons who both missed the cut.
Scotland's Catriona Matthew had a 77 for 12 over and England's former world
number one Laura Davies was on 15 over after a 84.
