Defending champion Padraig Harrington fired a second-round 67 to haul himself back into contention in the Honda Classic in Florida.

The Irishman trailed leader David Toms by four shots following the American's second 67 for 10 under at Mirasol.

American Billy Mayfair was second on nine under, with Harrington alongside Daniel Chopra, Geoff Ogilvy and Mathias Gronberg on six under.

English pair Lee Westwood and Luke Donald were one shot further back.

"Today I kept the bogeys off my card, played very solidly and rolled a couple more putts in," said Westwood, who has not won since the 2003 Dunhill Links Championship.

"I hit it close a lot and I'm just getting to know the course a little better as the week goes on. It's my first time here, so it's a learning experience."

World number eight Toms, the only player present from the world's top 10, was in a four-way share of the lead overnight and briefly threatened to run away with the event before finishing with three bogeys in his last five holes.

"I hit some bad shots but, overall, another good, solid round of golf and I've put myself right there with a chance to win the tournament going to the weekend," said Toms.

"That's what I'm here to try to do, so I'm in a good position so far."

Of Toms' co-overnight leaders, WGC-Match Play champion Ogilvy slipped back with a 71 as did Swede Mathias Gronberg, while Japan's Ryuji Imada carded 73 to fall to four under.

Sweden's Chopra fired a 65 to rocket up the leaderboard, while Westwood repaired his opening 73 with a 66 and Donald hit back from a 72 with a 67.

English pair Brian Davis and Ian Poulter carded 71 and 72 respectively for three over to make the cut by one.
