Welshman David Park burst to the top of the leaderboard at the Malaysian Open on Friday as storms halted play for a second straight day.

Over 60 players were forced to complete their first round on Friday morning and the latest downpour left 78 players still to finish their second rounds.

Park was unaffected by the storm and carded an eight-under par 64 to take a one-shot clubhouse lead at 13-under.

First-round leader Miguel Angel Jimenez slipped to three-under after a 77.

The Spaniard had held the lead at eight-under after playing the final hole of his first round on Friday morning.

Park, who sank birdies on the third, fifth, eighth, 10th, 13th, 17th and 18th leads the defending champion Thongchai Jaidee, and fellow Thai Thammanoon Srirot, by one shot.

Jaidee posted a superb nine-under 63, sinking a string of nine birdies to move into contention.

Malaysia's top professional Danny Chia gave the home crowd something to cheer about when he posted a credible 67 to move to seven-under and ninth spot on the leaderboard.
