JB Holmes put himself in pole position to make a dream start to his professional career by firing a 65 in the third round of the Phoenix Open. The 23-year-old, playing in only his fourth US Tour event, is a shot ahead of overnight leader JJ Henry and Ryan Palmer on 16 under overall.
Established Americans Justin Leonard and David Toms are lurking at 13 under.
But defending champion Phil Mickelson slipped back, while Brian Davis is the leading Briton on seven under.
Henry, who was one off the course record with his Friday 61, managed to add only a one-under 70.
But he was philosophical at giving up his lead.

"If somebody said I would be a shot back with a round to play, to be honest, I'd almost prefer that in a way," said Henry.
"Being that I've never won before, I don't have to sleep on the lead and there's not pressure and I just get to fire away and make as many birdies as I can."
Former Major winner Leonard hailed the good scoring.
"When the weather is this good here, you've got to make some birdies to keep the pace out there," he said.
"I don't think it's a surprise at the scores and how low they are."
