Darren Clarke had a topsy-turvy second round but still managed to stay in contention at the Nissan Irish Open.

Clarke was vying for the lead at four under before dropping seven shots. An eagle at the last left him at one over, six adrift of leader Stephen Dodd.

Like fellow countryman Damian Mooney, Holywood teenager Rory McIlroy carded a seven over par 81 to miss the cut.

Top Irishman was Paul McGinley who finished on 141 after firing a 69 to be two behind the leader.
