Mickelson is the top-ranked player at the Colonial |
Phil Mickelson will be looking for a return to his early-season form at this week's PGA Colonial event in Texas. Mickelson, who won at Fort Worth in 2000, took three titles before last month's Masters, where he was 10th.
He tied for seventh at the Wachovia Championship and finished tied 14th at Byron Nelson - his worst result since the Players' Championship in March.
Masters runner-up Chris DiMarco and Spain's Sergio Garcia are also in the field at the Colonial Country Club.
Garcia registered his first career PGA Tour victory at the Colonial in 2001.
World number one Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh are skipping the tournament but it will not prevent the Fijian reclaiming top spot.
Under the world ranking system, which is based on previous results, Woods will lose more points than Singh and so slip behind him.
South Africans Ernie Els and Retief Goosen are also taking a week off from the PGA Tour as they prepare for the run-in to the US Open at Pinehurst, North Carolina (16-19 June).
