Faldo will captain the 2008 European Ryder Cup team |
Nick Faldo believes one of his proteges will make the breakthrough to play in the 2010 Ryder Cup in Wales. The six-time major winner has been coaching young golfers through his Faldo Series since 1996 and developed the elite Team Faldo three years ago.
The 2008 Ryder Cup captain's conviction was strengthened by "apprentice" Nick Dougherty's maiden win in January.
"I guarantee that by 2010 there'll be a player in the team that will have come through the Faldo Series," he said.
Faldo has opted to relocate the Faldo Series and Team Faldo - where certain players are singled out for specialist coaching - to the Celtic Manor resort, venue for the 2010 Ryder Cup.

"The facilities are fantastic and it is so important for the players' growth that they have the opportunity to benefit from it," he said.
"What we are trying to do is increase the percentage of good players rather than have one guy come through British golf.
"We have got hundreds of players and I believe members of Team Faldo have a good chance of coming through."
Faldo, winner of three Open championships and three Masters titles, has ruled out trying to qualify for next month's US Open at Pinehurst in North Carolina.
European qualifying for the event is being held at Surrey's Walton Heath in early June but Faldo will not be competing.
"Thirty-six holes [in a day] is a long way for me now," said the 47-year-old.
He will, however, be in the high-class field which includes the likes of Ernie Els, Retief Goosen and Colin Montgomerie for the BMW Championship at Wentworth next week.
"In 1978 the PGA Championship became my first 72-hole victory so it is a very special event for me," said Faldo, who has won the European Tour's flagship event a record four times.
