Pressel is one of the most exciting talents in world golf |
The Ladies Professional Golf Association has reversed its earlier ruling and given Morgan Pressel a 2006 tour card before her 18th birthday. The tour had previously said the US Women's Amateur champion would have to wait until her 18th birthday - as the rules state - on 23 May for membership.
Pressel made the cut in all seven LPGA events she played in 2005 and tied for second in the US Women's Open.
She earned her 2006 card by tying for sixth in the LPGA qualifying event.
"I can't wait for the season to start, to be able to fully compete and be a part of the rookie race," the 17-year-old American said.
Pressel, who graduates from high school in May, is the second teenager to be receive an exemption from the LPGA's age limit. Thailand's Aree Song was allowed to join the tour at 17 in 2003.
The 16-year-old Michelle Wie, the other great American amateur of recent years, is not expected to join the LPGA Tour until she turns 18.
