American duo Sean O'Hair and Brett Wetterich share a one-shot lead after the second round of the Byron Nelson Championships in Irving, Texas. O'Hair fired a 65 and Wetterich carded a 67 in blustery conditions to move to nine under par ahead of Ted Purdy.
But world number one Tiger Woods failed to make the cut for the first time in seven years as he finished on one over.
Ernie Els remained in the chase five shots off the lead while Britain's Luke Donald was a stroke further back.
Justin Rose also scraped into the weekend as he matched the cut off point of even par.
Fiji's Vijay Singh maintained his challenge to take over the world number one spot from Woods as he finished among a group of nine players on five under.
Phil Mickleson also enjoyed a better second day, grabbing four birdies on his way to 66 to lie alongside Singh.
O'Hair, 22, has only one top-15 finish to his credit from 11 PGA Tour events but showed better form on the Cottonwood Valley course, mixing three birdies with an eagle.
Wetterich, who has missed the cut in his last three outings, also found some consistency, dropping just a single shot in Texas.
