Montgomerie finished second at this year's Open |
Colin Montgomerie has accused the media of becoming obsessed with his bid to land an elusive major. The Scot topped the European Order of Merit for an eighth time last month but is still searching for a victory in one of golf's four big tournaments.
"It doesn't affect me either way. It seems to affect the media more than me," said the 42-year-old.
"I don't go around trying to make an issue of it, the media makes more of an issue of it than I ever have done."
Montgomerie enjoyed a superb season throughout 2005, coming out of a prolonged slump to top his European rivals, which was capped by an OBE.
He also finished second to Tiger Woods at this year's Open, a performance he sees as the springboard to a bright year.
Despite admitting it would be a relief to win a major, Montgomerie said: "It doesn't really affect me either way.
"It won't change me or change my lifestyle or anything about me. I will just continue to try to continue to play and every time I enter I will try to win."
