New European captain Helen Alfredsson has called for a radical change to the Solheim Cup qualification process. Places on the team currently go to the top seven on a Ladies European Tour points list plus five captain's picks.
But the 40-year-old Swede wants the 2007 team to be chosen from a Ryder Cup-style rankings list that recognises performances on the US circuit too.
"Hopefully we can find a good system where points can be won on both continents," she said.
"And then maybe I can have two picks for people that are playing well just before the event but haven't made the team."
The current system bolsters the European circuit by making the continent's big names play a minimum number of events on this side of the Atlantic.
But with so many European stars now plying their trade on the more lucrative LPGA Tour - and struggling to qualify via the LET points list - there is a risk that the Solheim Cup team is being weakened. The American team has no such worries as all its potential members play on their own tour.
Ryder Cup captains were faced with the same dilemma until 2004 when the qualification process was changed to better accommodate the US-based players. But Alfredsson, who played in seven Solheim Cups between 1990 and 2002, has an ulterior motive for wanting the change to the system.
"Only having two picks will make my life much easier," she said.
"It's all about me, you know. It's all about making my life easy.
"That's why I'm going to have 10 helpers so I don't have to do anything. They can call me in the Bahamas if they need me!"
The 10th Solheim Cup will take place at the Halmstad Golfklubb in Sweden from 14-16 September, 2007.
The US, who won the 2005 event 15-12 at Crooked Stick, lead the transatlantic series 6-3.
