Bradley Dredge believes his WGC-World Cup win with playing partner Stephen Dodd will be a big boost to Welsh golf. Wales won by two shots from England and Sweden after Sunday's final round in Portugal was abandoned because of heavy rain and the threat of lightning.
"It is obviously huge for us and for golf in Wales," said Dredge.
"Anytime you pull the Welsh jersey on it gives you an extra incentive, so it was great for Steve and I to win a title like that for our country."
Dredge hopes that the World Cup success will inspire other Welsh players.
"The guys who know us will see the success we've had and think that if we can do it, then so can they," Dredge added.
"Hopefully we'll see a knock-on effect and get some more Welsh winners."
Dredge now heads into a two-month lay-off, while Dodd travels out to the Far East in three weeks to defend his China Open title.
"I'm not playing now until next year, so it was nice to finish on a high note - but it would be nice if that was a springboard for both of us to go on to further things," Dredge said.
"The big aim for both of us would be to get into the Ryder Cup, but we'll just have to wait and see now."
It was the second World Cup triumph for Wales, who also won in Hawaii in 1987 with Ian Woosnam and David Llewellyn.
Woosnam will captain Europe in the Ryder Cup clash at Dublin's K Club next September, so Dredge and Dodd will be hoping to continue their good form to catch their countryman's eye.
