Sorenstam on song in historic bid
R1 LEADERBOARD
Annika Sorenstam
-9: Young Kim (Kor)
-8: Annika Sorenstam (Swe)
-7: Shiho Ohyama (Jpn)
-6: Il Mi Chung (Kor), Jeong Jang (Kor)
Annika Sorenstam got off to a good start on Thursday in her bid to become the first player to successfully win a tournament five straight times.

The world number one carded an eight-under-par 64 to leave her one shot behind Korean Young Kim at the Mizuno Classic.

She did not drop a single shot at the Seta Golf Course, where she has not carded a score in the 70s since 2001.

The Swede already has eight titles under her belt this season.

Despite another bright start, Sorenstam was upstaged by Kim, who also achieved a bogey-free round and finished with five straight birdies.

Kim has yet to win a title - her best career finish is a tie for fifth at the Sybase Classic in 2004.

Japan's Shiho Ohyama is two shots off the lead after a bogey-free 65, with Korean duo Il Mi Chung and Jeong Jang.

Laura Davies is Britain's highest-placed contender in a tie for sixth at five under.
