England's Jonathan Lomas leads after round one of the Mallorca Classic. Lomas, who shot a five-under 65, is one shot ahead of compatriot Mark Foster and Ireland's Gary Murphy.
Spain's world number six and defending champion Sergio Garcia is four shots off the lead after a 69 while England's Barry Lane had a disastrous 78.
Ryder Cup captain Ian Woosnam, who finished sixth in the Madrid Open on Sunday, pulled out after injuring his shoulder teeing off at the fifth hole.
Woosnam blamed the problem on "hitting it too hard when you are too old" and added: "I guess I've had it before, but not as bad as that.
"This was my last tournament of the year and it's a disappointing way to finish. I'll go and have a rest now."
Miguel Angel Jimenez is two shots off the lead in a tie for fourth while Jose Maria Olazabal, who recently redesigned part of the course, shot a 69.
Meanwhile, Sweden's Jarmo Sandelin, needing a top-four finish to make the top 116 on the Order of Merit and secure his Tour card for next year, shot a first-round 71.
Scotland's David Drysdale, currently in 115th place, carded a first-round 78 while France's Gregory Bourdy, who is just behind him in the money list, shot an even-par 70.
