Malaysia's Siew-Ai Lim and Mexico's Lorena Ochoa lead after the first round of the Phoenix Safeway International. Lim and Ochoa shot 65s to finish the day one stroke ahead of Sweden's world number one Annika Sorenstam and American veteran Juli Inkster. British Open champion Karen Stupples carded bogey-free five-under-par 67 and is in fifth place.
Fifteen-year-old Michelle Wie carded a 73 while Britain's Laura Davies came in with a one-under 71.
Stupples said: "I had five birdies, but none was from any distance and it was really just very steady and pretty boring.
"But I'm also delighted. It's great when you don't make any bogeys and 67 is good for starters."
For defending champion Sorenstam it was also a flawless day, her half-dozen birdies including a chip in from 40 feet at the 15th.
The Swede has won on her last three starts on the LPGA Tour, but filed for divorce from her husband over the winter.
But she hinted that the upheaval in her personal life has actually made her even more focused on the golf course.
"I don't think my game has ever been in better shape at the start of a year," she said.
"I really am concentrating on golf this year. I still have plenty of goals that I want to achieve."
